BOSTON 2001
Game Day

The Subway took us from the FleetCenter under Boston, Boston Common, and the Public Gardens to the "Copley" stop.  When we came out of the Copley subway stop we were at Copley Square.  We walked around Copley Square, passing the Boston Public Library, Trinity Church, to the John Hancock Tower.  The entrance for the Observatory was in one of the corners of the Tower by itself, not through the main entrance.  We purchased our tickets and made our way to the elevator that went up the 60 floors in about 30 seconds.  The weather had slowly started to clear so we were able to take some pictures from the Observatory of Boston.   There was history information throughout the Observatory regarding Boston.  It described how most of Boston is actually built on man made land.  The Back Bay itself was water until the Mid 1800's when the hills in the area were scraped down and the area was filled in.  Most of downtown Boston was created from landfill, as well as the entire Logan airport.  We spent about an hour at the Observatory and the weather continued to clear, so it was time to head back to the Hotel get cleaned up and head for the Ball Game.  Rhonda was even looking out the windows from the Observatory, with her vertigo defeated she is now planning a trip to the CN Tower in Toronto!

We took the Subway back to the Hotel, cleaned up and went back to the Subway for our ride to Fenway Park.  We were running late so we headed for Fenway Park directly from the Subway.  By game time it was a perfect night for ball.  It was clear and the temperatures were in the 70's.  We had hoped to get there early, have supper in the area before the game, but we we made it to Fenway just as the game was starting.  We had pretty good seats, down the third baseline overlooking the outfield and "The Green Monster".   It's quite a feeling to walk through the tunnels under the stands into a stadium like Fenway.  We found our seats, unfortunately the seats were 2 rows apart, and started watching the ballgame.  After a few innings Shelley and I walked around Fenway until we got to the gates for the outfield seats.  You could only get up there if you had a bleacher ticket.  We turned around and headed back to our seats when we came across the "Green Monster" himself and had our picture taken with him.

Here are some pictures from the game.

After the game we left Fenway (Boston won by the way) and went through the sport stores across the street from the Park.  We made our way back to the subway and headed back into downtown Boston.  We exited the subway at the City Hall and started looking for a place to have a bite to eat and a drink.  However we soon realized that the downtown area closes pretty early if you are looking for food.   After a few stops at places that were no longer serving food we made our way back to the hotel and ordered pizza.  After a few beer and pizza we were dreaming of the long drive back the next day.
